TENURE PORTFOLIO

My career journey as an artist-educator is marked by my thoughtful commitment to excellence in each facet of my work. I have a deep knowledge and practiced skill set in Directing, Writing, and Acting for both on-camera media and theatrical works. While it may be difficult for some to imagine pursuing three distinct art forms within two separate disciplines, I operate with the knowledge that while the expression of the inspiration may change, they originate from the same place within the artist. Throughout my time at MSU, I have demonstrated success at high levels in each area of my artistry, from staged readings and workshop productions of my plays, commissions, and options on my screenplays, as well as directing a slate of short films with successful film festival runs, to directing a feature-length film starring Alfred Molina with a follow up feature film slated for production in 2024/2025.
At the core of what I do in the Department of Theatre is to teach our students how to tell stories, whether through their performances, the design of the lights, scenery, or costumes, or through the direction of a piece. At its essence, I guide students to understand how to analyze a script and cultivate an artistic perspective through their discipline. I teach them how to apply those crucial skills in theatre and the interdisciplinary crossroads of film, television, and new media.
